ATTLEBORO – When Surge Hockey and Messier Selects met on Saturday at the New England Sports Village, the two were decidedly the best in their ’09 division bracket. Both boasting perfect 3-0-0, each with three sound victories. With a guaranteed spot in the 2022 Mini Chowder Cup’s second round on the line, it was Surge Hockey punching their ticket with a 6-2 victory.
The contest was tight through the first, Surge escaping with a slim 2-1 margin. Goals from Jason Burzmato and Matthew Flynn trumping the goal scored by Messier’s Vincent Davis.
Messier matched their goal total in the second, getting another score from Davis, but the Surge offense surged, doubling their offense output from the first. Greg Moreno, Angelo Spadaccini, Jake Struman and Russell Astuto contributing to finalize the 6-2 score.
Each Surge goal came from a different skater, only Struman (1G, 1A) and Jacob Letts (2A) finished the game with multiple points for the victors. Deklan Martin posted his fourth win in the Surge net.
