WALPOLE – The Mass Titans and the Boston Jr. Blues wasted no time in getting the theatrics going at New England Pro-Am Hockey’s 2017 Senior Chowder Cup. The two sides opened their College Open slate of preliminary games in a tight one that went down to the final minutes before ending in a 3-3 tie Thursday morning at Rodman Arena.
It was a defensive first as netminders Joe Sharib of the Titans and Ryan Welch of the Jr. Blues each kept their foe off the score sheet for much of the game’s opening 25:00. Not until there was just 2:46 remaining in the frame did either team find the back of the net, when twins Dillon and Al Arno combined for the score – Dillon with the goal, Al with the assist – giving the Titans a 1-0 advantage through the half.
The first half was juxtaposed by an early start to the scoring in the second half, the Blues quickly getting on the board and then taking the lead. It was a 1-1 game at 2:47, Mitchell Pelletier setting up Matt Schreiner for the score. Just under three minutes later at 5:41, it was Schreiner’s turn to set up Pelletier to make it 2-1 in favor of the Blues.
That was where the score remained until late when the Titans had two quick ones of their own to reclaim their advantage. Michael Tersoni at 20:20 and St. Sebastian’s product James Davenport at 21:01 with the goals.
Time was growing thin, but the scoring was not done yet. With his side trailing 3-2, Pelletier came through with his second of the contest at 23:42. The 3-3 tie holding through the game’s remaining 1:18.
Pelletier ended with a game-high three points (2G, 1A).
