Freezers stay in front of Battalion, 5-4.

CANTON – To help keep their chances at advancing to Sunday’s playoff round afloat, the New England Freezers earned a 5-4 victory on Saturday morning at the Canton Ice House. They held off Elite Hockey Battalion ’04 late, ending the Battalion’s stay at the Mini Chowder Cup with a 5-4 victory.

New England was looking strong early as they raced out to a 3-0 lead, getting a pair of goals from Brayden Deschamps (3:45 and 11:39) and one from Ben Vieten (7:12).

Alex LoGuercio got the Battalion offense going with a goal at 14:59 as the two side’s went on to trade a pair of goals apiece through the remainder of the half to leave the score at 5-2 in favor of the Freezers at halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Battalion was on the board first, Troy Gouveia cutting into his side’s deficit with his second goal of the game at 6:00 of the second half. Not out of it yet, they edged even closer as the game clock approached desperation time. Dana Moreau made it a one-goal game with his score at 19:36, but the Freezers held on throughout for the 5-4 victory.

The win moved the Freezers to 2-1-0 on the tournament.
