WALPOLE – In a game that turned on a dime following the halftime intermission, the New York Rangers bested the Boston Generals, 5-2, in their ’99 Division matchup on Friday afternoon at Rodman Arena.
A defensive battle was waged in the opening 25-minutes of the game. Both sides went back-and-forth, but the only scoring done in the frame was by Rangers winger Joshua DeCarolis, who scored at 13:04 to give his side the 1-0 advantage.
From nearly the moment the puck dropped on the second half, however, the offensive fireworks began, Michael Sacchi getting the ball rolling at 2:20. Sacchi’s tally touched off a pair just 20-seconds apart that gave the Generals a 2-1 lead, the second goal coming from Albany Academy product Liam Bove.
The Generals were not long for the lead, however, the Rangers going on a run of their own starting with Jack Sheehan’s goal at 4:23. It was a run twice as long as that of the Generals, New York scoring four straight times to take the game over at 5-2. Following Sheehan, contributions during the run came from Kevin Paganini, Nick Abruzzese and Will Christensen.
All five Ranger goals came from a different scorer, though Abruzzese and Christensen each went home with three points, both with a goal and two assists. Grey Owen also contributed a pair of assists in the victory, while goaltender Tyler Haywood was credited with the win for New York.
