FOXBORO – The Northern Huskies got the afternoon portion of the opening day schedule at the 2014 Junior Chowder Cup started with a win, taking their ’98 Division contest from the Jersey Rockz by a score of 3-1 on Thursday at the Foxboro Sports Center.
With more than a quarter of the game played scoreless, the Rockz got the scoring started just after the midway point of the first half, Tyler Matts netting the game’s first goal at 14:58 for a 1-0 Jersey lead. It was the only time they would lead, however, as from there the Huskies took over the scoring, tying the game on a Gill Gamble goal at 18:29.
The 1-1 tie lasted through the halftime intermission, where the Huskies picked it up again deep on the other side of the half, Tristan Cowan giving his side the lead at 15:08 on a goal assisted on by Gamble. Winger Trent Schutt capped the scoring at 20:44 when he gave the Huskies a little breathing room with a two-goal advantage, bringing the score to its 3-1 final.
Gamble led all scorers in the contest with a goal and an assist. Tyler Freeman backstopped the win in net for the Huskies.
