DEDHAM – The Little Rhody Hockey Club finished out their preliminary round slate at the 2016 Chowder Cup on Saturday afternoon, shutting out the Springfield Express 1-0 at the Boch Ice Center.
Not much scoring to speak of in the contest, Rhody’s Anton Zemba and Springfield’s Jared Robbins locking down their respective net, confounding their opposing offense. The entire first half was played scoreless.
As the two netminders returned to their creases for the second, much of the game’s later half was played in much the same fashion as the first. Only once throughout the entirety of the game’s 50 minutes did either goaltender have to dig the puck out of their net, a distinction that went to Robbins as Rhody defenseman Thomas Tobey notched his second of the tournament at 19:43 of the second half.
It was not much for an offense that had scored 13 goals in the two games preceding their match up with the Express, but as the 1-0 score held, it was enough to secure Rhody the win. As a result, they finished atop their Jr. A division bracket, posting a 2-0-1 record in their preliminary round games.
