FOXBORO – New England Pro Am Hockey’s 2016 Midget Fall Classic came to an end on Monday afternoon, the tournament’s U16 division concluding in similar fashion to its 2015 incarnation. The Boston Jr. Terriers once again skating off with the U16 trophy, this time by virtue of a 4-0 victory over the Bay State Breakers.
While the Terriers seemingly rolled to their 2015 title, 2016 proved to be a tougher challenge, advancing to the semifinal by virtue of a tiebreaker and then escaping that game with a 2-1 victory over the Quincy 67’s. Once in the final, however, the Terriers’ controlling performance returned, taking over from the start and not looking back.
Ryan Doo started the game’s scoring with a goal at 4:33. Patrick Donahue then provided a little cushion for the Terriers with a goal coming at 13:57.
Despite having a shorter bench and a mere two-goal advantage, Boston’s grip on the game did not loosen as the Breaker’s pressed in the later minutes, only grew stronger. Doo and Donahue each added one more score before the game’s conclusion to round out the 4-0 decision. Also tied with a game-high two points was Egor Borshechev, credited with an assist on both of the final two goals.
Backstopping the win in net for Boston was Drew Hubbard, a performance that solidified his award as the U16 division’s Most Valuable Player. Also taking home postgame accolades was Doo, who – along with teammate Matt Ryan and Liam Walsh of the Breakers – was named an All-Tournament Forward.
Kevin McKay of the Terriers and Jake Higgins of the Breakers were selected as the All-Tournament Defensive tandem, while Hubbard’s Breakers counterpart Kevin Chandler was named All-Tournament Goaltenders.
