WALPOLE – The ’00 New England Freezers journey at the 2016 Jr. Chowder Cup came to a close on Saturday morning at Rodman Arena. It did not, however, end before the Freezers posted their first victory of the weekend, 9-4 over Roc City Red.
Looking to make quick work of their foe, Roc City jumped out to an early lead, pouring in three goals in the first 7:37 of the contest. Daniel Mecca, Adam Haines and Dylan Krzykowski all netting their first goals of the tournament to stake Roc City a 3-0 advantage.
The goals came in bunches throughout, both sides getting in on the action with a combined total of nine scored in the game’s opening 25-minutes, which ended with Roc City leading 5-4.
The Freezer offense kept at it in the second half, upping their goal total by one in the second, matching the five scored by Roc City. More importantly than their offensive pace, however, was the Freezers defense ability to shutdown Roc City in the second. The once torrid attack turned stagnant as the Freezers posted a shutout in the latter frame.
With their five goals scored in the second, the game ended with New England in front 9-4. Freezer teammates Ryan Brouillette (2G, 1A) and Ned Niemo (3A) led the game’s scoring with three points apiece, while Haines led the show for Roc City with two goals.
