First period spark paces Oil Kings’ victory.

CANTON – The Connecticut Oil Kings brought their pool play slate of games to a close on Saturday with a victory. They defeated the Boston Knights 7-3 at the Canton Ice House.

Boston struck first – Ian Chang at 4:07 – but the Oil Kings followed suit just over a minute later courtesy of Jackson Leahy and then went back to the well throughout the game’s opening 20 minutes.

Three more times the Oil Kings struck to amass a 4-1 lead by period’s end. Thomas Cortelli, Anthonhy Cappello and Joey Mallozzi credited with the scores.

The Knights made a rally to start the second half. Goals from Max Tong and Seamus Brennan sandwiched a goal by Connecticut’s Jacob Miller to cut their deficit to 5-3, but it was as close as Boston ever was for the remainder of the contest.

Another pair of Oil King goals pushed the score to its 7-3 final. A trio from the victors finished with multiple points in the contest – Cortelli (2G), Cappello (1G, 1A) and Jacob Miller (1G, 1A) – while Mason Pickering was credited with the win in the Connecticut net.
