All-American Prospects reign supreme at Jr. Chowder Cup. Fensore named MVP.

WALPOLE – The All-American Prospects closed out New England Pro-Am Hockey’s 2017 Jr. Chowder Cup on Sunday evening as it’s top team. They took home the tournament’s top prize, winning the ’01 Division Championship with a 2-1, overtime victory against Hockey Essentials White.

It was a longer road to the final match for Hockey Essentials, but one they seemed to handle with relative ease. They posted a 4-1 victory over Roc City Elite Red in the opening round. It was their closest match of the day in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over the East Coast Wizards. The margin of victory went back up in the semifinals as they shutout the Boston Jr. Eagles 3-0 to punch their ticket to the last game of the tournament.

While playing just two games to make it to the end, things were seemingly similarly not overly tumultuous for All-American Prospects as they advanced on a combined score of 7-2 in their set. They defeated the Boston Jr. Whalers Orange 3-1 in the quarters and then Harrow Springs Hockey 4-1 in the semis.

All-American then wasted little time getting things started in the final, Liam Devlin putting away a setup from Sam Colangelo at 3:18 to net the 1-0 advantage.

It was a lead that lasted about 10-minutes before Essentials got in on the scoring action. Trevor Treloar and Robert Mastrosimone combining for the equalizer at 13:02. All-American’s duo of Devlin and Colangelo were not done, however.

The pair combined again at 21:12, Colangelo again setting up Devlin to again give Prospects a one-goal advantage. This one 2-1.

Entering the final contest, Hockey Essentials was looking at their third bid to claim a ’01 Division title at a Pro-Am tournament, having lost to the Black Squirrels in ’01 Division finals of the 2015 Mini Chowder Cup and 2016 Jr. Chowder Cup. Not intent to let it slip away a third time, they pressed late. Treloar and Mastrosimone combined again for another equalizer, this one coming at 27:55 to make it 2-2 and force overtime.

The third time, however, was not the charm for Essentials. Goaltender Matt Schoer stayed in the All-American net to turn away all attempts in the extra session, while Danny Weight played the part of the game’s hero, coming through with the clinching goal of the 2017 Jr. Chowder Cup ’01 Division championship at 6:59 of overtime.
