Valley beats buzzer, Roc City

Whynot’s goal as time expires nets 3-2 win.

FOXBORO – In their first of two games on the day, the Valley Hockey Group ’02 began their second day of play at the 2015 Mini Chowder Cup with a win on Saturday. Valley beat the buzzer and Roc City Elite in a 3-2 victory clinched in the game’s final seconds.

At the game’s onset, it did not look as though Valley would have to wait so long to seal their second win of the tournament, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead. A power play goal by Alex Power and the first of the tournament from Connor Deluney put Valley out in front, both goals scored within the game’s first four minutes.

From there, however, the offenses went quiet until late in the second half when Roc City rallied for a pair of quick strikes. Adam Rourke and Tyler Sullivan scored just 48-seconds apart to draw the game back to even, goals coming at 17:00 and 17:48.

Valley had lost their lead and the game was set to go in the books as a 2-2 draw. That is until the very last moment of the contest when Cam Whynot came through with his second goal of the tournament, stealing the 3-2 victory for Valley.

The game-winning goal credited at exactly the 20:00 mark of the 20-minute half.
