FOXBORO – The final New England Pro-Am Hockey tournament of the year is underway, the Assabet Patriots U16 scoring the first win of the 2015 Midget Fall Classic by defeating the Quincy 67’s 5-1 at Foxboro Sports Center.
A quiet first half on the score sheet preceded a busy second, the lone tally of the tournament’s opening 25 minutes coming just past the midpoint, courtesy of Patriots forward Michael Burman. Tyler Oakley had the game tied 1-1 early in the second half, but as the latter frame approached the midpoint, the Assabet offense struck once again, rallying for four-straight to put the game away.
Declan Delaney had the Patriots back on top at 9:23 of the second half. Jack Gump followed suit just 47-seconds later to make it a 3-1 cushion. Brendan McGuirk upped the Assabet advantage to three with his first of the tournament at 16:38, before Gump added the second of his game-high two scores with just seconds remaining to polish off the 5-1 win.
Patriot teammates Joe Lyons and Luke Goulet led the game in scoring with three assists apiece. Ben Joiner was credited with backstopping the win.
