Townshend over Vikings, 3-1, in opener.

CANTON – Townshend Hockey Selects have opened their preliminary round slate of College Open division games with a 3-1 victory over Vikings Hockey Club on Thursday morning at the Canton Ice House.

There was not much scoring in the contest, but Townshend was up and after it early, Daniel French giving the eventual winners their first goal of the game just 3:55 into the contest. The slim margin of one was then doubled to two just before the halftime break as Cole Nawrocki made it 2-0 at the 24:12 mark.

Out of the locker room, Townshend was then after it again early in the second, scoring again in the third minute. This one a Jonathan Shaw goal at 3:20 to make it 3-0.

As with the first half, there was a goal late in the second as well. This one, however, went in favor of the Vikings as Will Torrence broke up the shutout bid at 20:38, setting the score at its 3-1 final.

Jack Nemickas secured the win in net for Townshend Hockey.
