Shamrocks come up short in rally

Drop 7-6 decision to NE Thrashers Jr. A

CANTON – A late second half rally came up just short for Shamrocks Hockey as they dropped to 1-1 in the tournament following a 7-6 loss to the New England Thrashers Jr. A on Friday at the Canton Sports Plex.

The game started well for the Shamrocks, Nick Adamsons putting his side up 1-0 just 1:00 into the contest. The Thrashers responded just 48-seconds later, however, evening the game on a Matt Muzyka goal and then taking the lead at 4:12 on a goal by Nolan Redler. The Shamrocks battled back as the teams traded blows the rest of the half, resulting in a 3-3 tie at the break.

After the intermission, the Thrashers took charge again as Chris Zuccaro scored a pair just 1:10 apart, his goals at 9:27 and 10:37 giving New England a 5-3 lead. A goal from defenseman Joe Griffin widened the lead to three at 15:32, but from there the Shamrocks went to work chipping away at the Thrashers’ lead.

Alex Friend started the comeback with a power play goal at 17:20 and Patrik Zilak got the Shamrocks back to within one with his goal at 24:08, but they were never able to make it any closer. The Thrashers staved off the rally the final 0:58, securing the 7-6 win.
