Richter behind bench for ’00 Rangers

WALPOLE – The race to decide the Bracket 5 win of the ’00 Division in the 2014 Mini Chowder Cup will be a tight one, coming down to the final game of the opening round following the New York Ranger’s 1-1 tie with Seadogs Black on Saturday afternoon at Rodman Arena.

While the Rangers ended the contest with the better chances of advancing in the tournament, a win of their own would have put the Seadogs in that position and they were looking good as Cameron Gibbs gave them the game’s first lead with his first of the tournament at 10:36 of the first half. It was a 1-0 lead the Seadogs held for the duration of the opening frame.

New York could not get anything offensively in the first, but it did not take them long to get something going in the second half, Jake Monroe scoring just 1:31 in to even the game at 1-1. That, however, is all the scoring either side could muster in the frame as the contest ended in a draw.

With both teams tied, holding 1-0-1 records through two games, the winner of Saturday evening’s matchup between the Rangers and the Nordiques will help determine who wins the bracket and moves on to Sunday’s playoff round.
