Rhody banks West 2-0.

WALPOLE – With a 2-0 score in their second game, Little Rhody Hockey Club moved their ’01 Division record at the 2017 Jr. Chowder Cup to 2-0. They shutout Canada West Elite Red 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Walpole’s Rodman Arena.

The goaltenders were the story at the start, Matthias Smith for Canada West and Justin Spencer for Little Rhody. The two turning aside shot after shot to the tune of a combined 33 saves in the half.

It was not until deep into the half one of the netminders blinked. Matthias the first with a blemish to his credit as Cameron Croteau netted a power play goal at 23:41 for a 1-0 Rhody lead.

Matthias gave way to battery mate Felix-Anthony Ethier in the second half, but the battle continued in the rival nets. Spencer and Ethier continued to rack up the saves in the second half, but as he did to Ethier’s counterpart, Croteau victimized the West goaltending a second time.

The Rhody forward put away his second of the contest at 11:20 of the second half, doubling the score and securing the 2-0 win.

Spencer ended the contest with 35 saves to his credit in the shutout.
