FOXBORO – In the first game on the final day of opening round play at New England Pro Am Hockey’s 2017 Sr. Chowder Cup, Raptors Hockey Club made a late push, but ultimately fell to AP Selects, 3-2, on Saturday morning at Foxboro Sports Center.
That Raptors push came late in the contest, but AP Selects were the first team in need to come from behind with the Raptors being the first on the board. It was a Bryce Patterson goal at 12:26 of the first – assisted on by Tristan Engelhardt and Cooper Wolf – which accounted as the game’s opening score.
It would not be the lone goal of the first half, however, Selects drawing the game back to even just before the frame’s conclusion on an unassisted, Thomas Bauer goal at 23:40.
The 1-1 tie lasted through the half, after which Selects wasted little time tipping the scales in their favor. Bauer got his second of the game at 1:22 and then Jack Chatwin extended the cushion to 3-1 at 10:53.
The Raptors were back within one on a Hunter Fraser goal at 17:10. They kept pressing and still had one more goal to be scored in the contest, but the 3-2 margin is as close as they came to overthrowing Selects.
Andrew Longo extended the lead with the eventual game-winning score for Selects, an unassisted tally at 20:14 of the second half. Defenseman Zack Nelson rounded out the game’s scoring for the Raptors with his goal at 22:57.
With the win, AP Selects finish their Jr. A Division, preliminary round play at the 2017 Chowder Cup a perfect 3-0.
