Quebec Prospects open with win

Stave off a series of rallies in 7-6 victory.

WALPOLE – Canada West Red had little trouble handling the competition in May as they rolled to the championship in the 2014 New England Pro-Am International Pre-Draft Showcase. After just one game, however, their road through the 2014 Chowder Cup has proven to be little more difficult as they dropped their opener 7-6 to Quebec Prospects in the Jr. A Elite Division.

Things looked good at the start for Canada West as they quickly built a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest on goals by Matthew Plesa and Paris Briscoe. That two-goal lead, however, turned into a two-goal deficit by the half as Quebec put away four unanswered for the 4-2 advantage.

Canada West rallied to start the second half and tie the game at 4-4 and continued to rally throughout the half, but they were never again able to pass Quebec, who held leads at 5-4, 6-5 and ultimately 7-6.

Maxim Pitre (2G, 1A) and Eric Salzillo (1G, 2A) paced the offense for Quebec with three points apiece. Plesa and Briscoe each finished the contest with two goals, while Peter Plesa added a pair of assists for Canada West.
