Preliminary round complete as Crows and 67’s split.

CANTON – And it ends as it began.

The preliminary round of New England Pro Am Hockey’s 2018 Mini Chowder Cup has concluded. As was the case in the first listed game of the tournament, the final listed game of the preliminary round ended in a 3-3 tie. This one between the New England Crows ’04 and Mass Edge 67’s on Saturday night at the Canton Ice House.

Both sides had rolled through their first three games of the tournament, but finally met their match when they squared off against each other. Top seed in the bracket was on the line, and offenses struck on both sides in the first as the Crows and 67’s looked to punch their ticket to Sunday’s playoff round. Ryan Leonard and Perry Gaudreau stuck for Mass Edge, while two for Donovan Frias and one by Landon Resendes made it a 3-2 New England advantage heading into the halftime break.

The scoring seemed to be flowing in the first, but became stagnant in the second. Tyler Bowden in the Crows’ net and Jayden Haggerty in for the 67’s, each thwarted their foes’ advances. Just one tally was scored in the final period. Luckily for Mass Edge, it was scored by the team that needed it. Brady Berard put away a goal credited at 8:35 of the second to draw the score even at 3-3, where it remained through the final buzzer.

Frias added an assist to his two goals to lead the Crows and the game in scoring with three points to his credit.
