Ohio top Vermont in a tight one.

ATTLEBORO – It was a tight one for the Ohio Prospects and Vermont Flames when they met on the ice at the New England Sports Village on Thursday to open their respective 2022 Jr. Chowder Cup schedules. Ohio came away from the ’07 division matchup with a narrow, 3-1 win.

Scoring was mum through the majority of the first half, the game remaining scoreless until the final minutes of the frame when Alexander Oliver put Ohio on the board for a 1-0 lead that lasted through the intermission. Carson Joy extended that lead to 2-0 early in the second half.

Vinny Mercadante cut that deficit in half for Vermont with a goal near the midpoint of the second that made it 2-1. More goals had come than there were in the first, but scoring was still at a premium, netminders Logan Linsz for Ohio and Joey Mitchell for Vermont playing strong in their respective goal creases.

Clinging to their slim advantage, Roman Gralak padded Ohio’s lead and made it 3-1 late in the second to finalize the win.
