Northeast Selects sweep through prelims.

FOXBORO – The Northeast Selects have finished their run through the preliminary round, but their stay at the 2018 Mini Chowder Cup is not over. Their clean, 4-0-0 record puts them atop their bracket and into the tournament’s playoff round. A 4-0-0 record that was capped off with a 7-2 victory over the ’05 Boston Jr. Blues on Saturday afternoon at the Foxboro Sports Center.

A tight 2-1 game at the half became a runaway in the second, the Selects seemingly cashing in on every chance they got. Their one goal lead grew to four just past the second’s midpoint on goals by Alex Weiermair, Owen Leahy and Jason Zaccari.

Kurt Heath scored for the Blues late in the frame to make it 5-2, but it was a goal followed by a couple more Northeast nails within the next 20-seconds of the game to solidify the 7-2 final.

Four different Selects were credited with multipoint contests. Weiermair led the assault with four points at two goals and two assists. Will Smith (1G, 2A) was next with three points. Leahy (2G) and Phillippe Lalonde (2A) were each credited with a pair.

Goaltender Tyler Bloomfield was credited with the win in the Northeast net.
