FOXBORO – The Mass Attack locked down their first win of the 2014 Junior Chowder Cup on Friday afternoon at the Foxboro Sports Center as they defeated the Eels, 5-3, in the ’99 Division.
After an early goal by Lucyan Pawlowicz at 1:56 gave the Eels a 1-0 lead, the game stayed quiet until the midpoint of the first half, when the goals started pouring in at a torrid pace. In the span of just under five minutes, Nico Scalli and Mike Gillis struck in succession just 45-seconds apart at 10:28 and 11:13, respectively, to give the Attack a 2-1 lead, followed the Eels coming right back to even the game at 2-2 on a Jesse Belley goal at 14:02.
The tie held until just before the half when the lead went back to the Attack as Matt McKenzie came through at 23:48 for the 3-2 intermission lead.
It was near the midpoint of the half once again that things started to get ramped up in the second. Robert Tibbets continued the run of three unanswered by the Attack with his goal at 14:02, while Paul Dooley finished it off at 19:42 for the 5-2 lead.
A faint glimmer of a rally flared at 20:56 when the Eels cut their deficit back to two at 5-3, but that is as far as any comeback came, the Attack keeping their lead right where it was for the remainder of the contest.
Goaltender Andrew Lorusso was credited with the win for the Attack.
