FOXBORO – The Long Island Edge end pool play in the 2014 Midget Fall Classic a perfect 3-0 after defeating the Wonderland Wizards U18 5-3 on Sunday night at the Foxboro Sports Center.
In search of their first win of the tournament, the Wizards made things interesting for the Edge as the first half came to a close. Trailing 2-0, Wonderland put away a pair to draw even before halftime, Christopher Peach and John Paul Shimko each scoring at 14:28 and 22:40, respectively.
With the score tied 2-2, Long Island opened the second half by scoring a pair of their own to re-establish their cushion. Michael Landolphi was credited with his second of the game at 10:06 and Michael Brzozowski recorded his first of the tournament at 13:31 to move the score to 4-2. Wonderland was back to within one when Peach came through with his second of the game at 24:05. Any hopes of an upset comeback ended just 20-seconds later, however, Jake Zimmerman icing the game with his third of the tournament. The Edge holding on for the 5-3 win.
Shimko (1G, 2A) and Long Island’s Nick Leelum (3A) tied with a game-high three points apiece.
