Late Rally Not Enough for EHG

Despite closing minute goal, Eastern Elite holds 3-2 win.

CANTON – EHG Black made for a tight finish on the score sheet on Friday at the Canton Sports Plex. There they met Eastern Elite Red, starting a late rally to make the game close. It was a comeback, however, that could not be completed as Eastern Elite skated off with a 3-2 win.

Romeo Torain opened the game’s scoring with a goal at 6:33, giving EHG a 1-0 lead that lasted deep into the first half. Their fortunes changed, however, when Michael Egan and Mitch Grogan scored less than a minute apart – at 19:48 and 20:41, respectively – to give Eastern Elite a 2-1 lead. One that lasted through the ended of the half.

Egan came through again for at 17:13 of the second with a power play goal to give Eastern what would amount to much needed breathing room. With plenty of time left on the clock, EHG was back to within one on a Victor Nikoforov goal at 22:10.

EHG made it dramatic as they bookended the game’s scoring, but Eastern’s lead could not be undone and they held on for the 3-2 victory.

Egan’s two goals led all scorers in the contest, while goaltenders Colin Burgess and Anthony Manfredi split duties in the Eastern Elite net.
