The Canada West Elite hockey program has long since been a mainstay at New England Pro-Am Hockey’s tournaments, but like much in 2020, this time around things will be a little different. Stepping in for program GM Lou Gravel behind the bench for CWE California at both the 2020 Junior and Senior Chowder Cup will be long-time professional Tomas Kapusta.
A member of the Edmonton Oilers’ 1985 draft class, Kapusta is a veteran of 18 professional seasons, playing in both Europe and North America. A Czech native, Kapusta also saw success on the international stage, winning a pair of silver medals at the World Junior Championships (1985, 1987), a bronze at the 1993 World Championships and was selected to play for the national team at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway.
In addition to his playing experience, Kapusta is also a scout for the NAHL’s Aberdeen Wings and Director of Coaching for California’s Jr. Reign program.
