Hockey Essentials blanks Top Shelf

WALPOLE – The opening day of play at New England Pro Am Hockey’s 2016 Mini Chowder Cup has come to a close. The final game slated for the day resulting in a 6-0 blanking of Top Shelf 1 by Hockey Essentials Black in the ’02 division, played at the Rodman Arena in Walpole.

It was not until late in the first half the Essentials offense got rolling, in particular Alex Vouraus, who seemed could only be stopped by the period’s buzzer once the momentum got going. The Essentials forward notched the game’s first goal at 13:48 and just six minutes later had completed a hat trick as part of an assault run that saw them take a 4-0 lead into the break.

Things got better for Top Shelf in the second half, but not by much. They did cut their opponents offensive output in half, but were still unable to score, Essentials netminder Tyler Schiavone turning aside every shot that made its way to him from game’s start to finish.

With Schiavone’s effort and another pair of goals in the latter frame, Essentials had secured their first win of the tournament by a score of 6-0.

Vouraus added an assist in the second half to finish with a game-high four points (3G, 1A). Michael Bonavita (2G) and PJ Rivello (2A) also finished credited with multiple points.
