Guns smoke Thrashers, 6-1

Young Guns close with first win of tournament.

WALPOLE – It had been a troubling stay for the North American Young Guns at the 2015 Junior Chowder Cup. They entered the final day of the opening round coming off back-to-back losses, but the Young Guns seemingly saved their best for last. They closed out their ‘00 division schedule with a 6-1 victory over the New England Thrasher Saturday morning at Rodman Arena.

The Young Guns offense was quiet for much of the first half and the team trailed for a good portion of it after Michael Aloise grabbed the game’s first lead for the Thrashers with his score at 15:59, but a goal in the final seconds changed their fortunes. Michael Farren’s shorthanded tally at 24:45 ignited the Young Guns offense, who began piling on after the break.

After netting the equalizer at the end of the first, Farren then put away the go-ahead goal at 11:18 of the second. Finally in front, the Young Guns made quick work extending their advantage, Cory Morrice upping the lead to 3-1 just 22-seconds after Farren’s second.

The Young Guns were pulling away and the team’s power play made sure there was no coming back for the Thrashers, netting three goals down the stretch to extend their lead to five. The Thrashers power play group also converted late in the half, Jack Garvey putting away the game’s final goal at 24:33, bringing the score to 6-2.

Farren (2G, 2A), Morrice (1G, 2A) and Dylan Tonks (2G) all had multiple points in the contest.
