Generals top Whalers 4-1

Second half surge keys win.

WALPOLE – The Boston Generals started their opening round of play in the 2015 New England Pro-Am Hockey Pre-Draft Showcase with a win on Friday at Rodman Arena. Three second half goals keyed the win as the Generals downed the Boston Junior Whalers 4-1.

After a first period that yielded just one goal, there was an offensive surge in the second half, starting with Paul Vella’s tally at 2:31 that gave the Generals a 2-0 advantage.

The lead grew to 3-0 on Joe Molinaro’s goal at 8:52 and stayed that way until late when the Whalers finally broke through goaltender Bailey MacBurnie and the Generals defense, Will D’Orsi getting his side’s first goal of the game at 23:08.

D’Orsi’s goal brought the Whalers’ deficit to a manageable two with just over two minutes to play, but any comeback hopes were dashed quickly. Generals forward Pat Kramer re-established the three-goal lead just 44-seconds later, bringing things to their 4-1 final.
