Elite Top Prospects topple Pond Patriots

BRIDGEWATER – That is two up and two down for the ’01 Elite Top Prospects at the 2016 Jr. Chowder Cup. They pulled away from the Pond Patriots in the second half to score their second victory of the tournament, 7-2, on Friday at Bridgewater Ice Arena.

Things were looking good for Elite early as they staked themselves a 2-0 lead on goals from Bobby Geier at 5:05 and Drew Iannucci at 10:12 of the first half. The lead held until late and the frame when the Patriots put up a pair of quick strikes to tie the game, Alexander Maglio and George Boos converting at 21:20 and 21:52, respectively.

The game was tied 2-2, but only briefly, Nicky Hay getting the Prospects back their lead 43-seconds before the teams broke for halftime.

A once close game fell away from the Patriots in the second as Elite more than doubled their output from the first. Four times the Prospect offense found the back of the net, while their defensive unit, led by goaltender Max Hunt – who came on to spell Linus Wramage in net to start the latter half – shutout their foe. Johnny Wescoe, another from Geier and a pair of goals from Hay to complete his hat trick finalized Elite’s 7-2 victory.

Hay’s three goals led all scorers in the contest, while Elite also received multiple point performances from Geier (2G), Dylan Pollack (2A) and Evan Donnelly (2A).
