Cyclones leave Knights behind

Offense continues to shine as team stays perfect at Classic.

FOXBORO – The Northern Cyclones made it a perfect 3-for-3 in U16 Division play during the opening round of play at the 2015 Midget Fall Classic on Saturday morning, pulling away from the Lovell Knights White late to secure an 8-3 win.

Adam Cookson notched the game’s first tally at 7:59 of the opening half for a 1-0 Knights’ lead, but it was shortly thereafter the Cyclones offense got into the action. Tyler Bodette had the game back to even, 1-1, just 30-seconds later with his fifth goal of the tournament. Vinnie Solla and Jericho Petkovich then followed in succession as the Cyclones opened a 3-1 lead.

Tyler Page came through for the Knights late in the first half to close the deficit to 3-2 at the break and the gap remained tight as the two sides traded goals early in the second half. Cookson scored his second of the game at 4:56 of the second to make it 4-3 Cyclones and, similarly to the first, the Lovell winger’s goal brought out the Northern offense, the victors rallying for four-straight to finish out the contest and the 8-3 final.

Petkovich, amongst the leading scorers in the tournament, closed out the opening round with a game-high four points, credited with two goals and two assists. Teammates Bodette (1G, 1A), Solla (1G, 1A) and Liam Connolly (2A) were also all credited with multiple points.

Cookson was credited as the leading scorer for the Knights with his two-goal outting.
