Canada West White puts hammer down early

West’s offensive explosion in first sinks NJ United.

WALPOLE – After a tough loss to start the tournament, Canada West White rebounded in their second game of the opening round of the 2015 New England Pro-Am Hockey Pre-Draft Showcase on Saturday. They did so by doing to their second opponent what their first did to them, laying a 5-0 drubbing on NJ United at Rodman Arena.

West made quick work of United, scoring five of their six goals in the first half. Thomas Cankovic started the assault at 6:31 and was followed on the score sheet by goals from Ian McLellan, Zach Huggins, Brandon Schaber and Victor Ostling in building the wide, 5-0 margin.

Things became far less dramatic in the second with only Brayden Harris’ goal at 17:03, his second of the tournament, added to the score sheet.

Victor Courchesne was credited with backstopping the shutout for Canada West. Schaber and Harris went down as the game’s only multi-point scorers with a goal and assist each.
