WALPOLE – After getting nicked late in their tournament opener on Thursday, Canada West Elite Red 99’s bounced back on Day 2. They posted a more than comfortable 8-0 win over Mass Attack on Friday at Rodman Arena.
With goals less than a minute apart near the 5:00 mark of the first half, Canada West had themselves an early 2-0 lead from which they never looked back. Leo Mihalochrista at 4:53 and then Sam Allison at 5:40 started the first half assault that ended late in the frame. Another goal from Allison at 21:42 set the West lead at 3-0 heading into the break.
The first half was more than good enough to put away the opposition, but West still improved upon their effort in the second. They bettered their goal total in the first by two, pumping in five in the second half to close out the 8-0 victory.
Allison, who started the second half scoring when he completed his hat trick at 1:42, ended the contest with a game-high four goals and five points. Brad Shaw had the game-high in assists with three, as part of his four-point performance. Peter Michailides (1G, 1A) and Cameron Scott (2A) also had multi-point showings.
CJ Hapward and Shawn Thevenot split the shutout effort in the Canada West net.
