Boston Jr. Eagles score tourney’s first win

All offense comes in second as Eagles down Militia, 3-0.

FOXBORO – The 2014 New England Pro-Am Mini Chowder Cup is underway and it was the Boston Jr. Eagles who got things going by defeating the East Coast Militia White 3-0 in the ’00 Division to score the tournament’s first win.

All was mum on the scoreboard in the opening half as the teams played scoreless through the game’s first 20:00. The first half of the second was played in similar fashion, as it was not until 11:27 that Rory Casey got things going with a power play goal to put Boston up 1-0.

From there, the Eagles took off. What was once a back-and-forth game became theirs on the ice and eventually so on the scoreboard as well. A pair of quick strikes as the game neared just two minutes to play put things away for Boston, the tallies coming just 15 seconds apart. Mason Beecher struck first at 17:39 for the 2-0 advantage, before Joe Goguen capped things off at 17:54, bringing the score to its 3-0 final.

Connor Hopkins backstopped the shutout, his first of two on the day for the Eagles.
