WALPOLE – Day 2 of the 2016 Mini Chowder Cup is underway. It started up on Saturday morning at the Rodman Arena in Walpole with the Boston Jr. Blues ’04 posting a 7-4 victory over CT Oil Kings.
The Blues did not wait long to start their offensive assault, Ryan Buckley making it 1-0 just 27-seconds after the game’s opening face-off. Despite the early hiccup, the Oil Kings kept pace with their foe in the first and, after Brock James made it 2-0, eventually took the lead at 3-2 thanks to goals from Daniel Hu (15:00), Anthony Vernillo (15:20) and Augie Swanson (17:06).
James, however, had one more in them before the frame’s close, sending it to the half tied 3-3.
There was another two-goal swing by the Blues to start the second half that was eventually interrupted by a score from the Oil Kings; Vernillo’s second making it 5-4 at 12:37. Unlike the first, the Oil Kings did not rally to take the lead, but rather the Blues kept moving forward. Chris Delaney and Julian Frias each scored to pad the Blues’ lead to a comfortable 7-4, where it remained until game’s end.
Brock led the game in offense with two goals and an assist, while both Delaney (2G) and Ollie Chessler (1G, 1A) were credited with multiple point games for the Blues.
Vernillo (2) and Peter Lewis (2A) led the Oil Kings offense.
