FOXBORO – The final of three weeks of Chowder Cup play this summer has begun, New England Pro Am Hockey’s Mini Chowder Cup opening play on Friday morning at the Foxboro Sports Center. In the first game on the tournament’s preliminary round docket, the Boston Jr. Blues ’05 and Fusion Hockey ’05 played to a 3-3 tie.
It was a slow start for either offense, just one score coming in the game’s opening half. Richard Bova set up Matthew Magee at 12:18 to give the Blues a 1-0 advantage they took into the halftime break.
While the scoring was slow in the first, little time was wasted before the Fusion got it going in the second half. They drew the game back to even all of 15-seconds after the opening draw of the period, Tyson Lefrense with the goal.
A pair of power play goals – one by Damon Myers at 2:12, another by Aidan Barbee at 6:09 – put Boston back in front at 3-1, but it was a lead that did not last. Alex Christmas at 14:55 and then a goal that came less than three minutes from Makai Mahaney set things even once again. The 3-3 equalizer coming at 17:40 of the second half.
Magee ended as the game’s only multipoint scorer with a goal and an assist.
