Black Squirrels slip past Eagles

Late goal delivers 6-5 win.

FOXBORO – The Black Squirrels made it three wins in three games at the 2015 Mini Chowder Cup on Saturday afternoon. A last minute goal delivering the 6-5 victory over the Boston Jr. Eagles ’01 at Foxboro Sports Center.

Things were looking good for the Eagles early, jumping out to a two-goal lead before the game was even two minutes old courtesy of scores from Chase McInnis at 1:02 and Conor Lovett at 1:20. The Squirrels, however, spread out three goals of their own over the remainder of the opening half to taking a 3-2 lead into the intermission.

The back-and-forth nature of the scoring – one side taking a lead, the other rallying to assume control – continued into the second half. Boston scoring two straight to make it 4-3, the Squirrels following that up with goals from Sean Farrell and Drew Scolaro to make it 5-4 with 7:59 remaining in the contest.

The Eagles rallied again to tie it on an Eamon Doheny score at 14:56, but this time could not push ahead. Rather, the next goal went to the Squirrels, Ryan Decker notching the game-winner with just 25-seconds left to play.

McInnis and the Squirrels’ Jake Hughes led the game in scoring, each credited with a goal and two assists.
