FOXBORO – The New Hampshire Avalanche put on a show when they arrived at Foxboro Sports Center on Saturday to start their slate of games at the 2017 Midget Fall Classic. They opened their weekend with an 8-2 victory hung on Islanders Hockey Club U16.
George Gatzoulis, playing out of Manchester Central High School, got the assault started early for the Avalanche with the game’s first goal at 2:46 of the opening half. Gatzoulis and the rest of his teammates rolled from there.
Five more times New Hampshire scored in the opening 25 minutes of the contest. Adding to that first tally were goals by Parker Joyce, Landon McClure and Jameson Goodridge, and a pair from Andrew Paquette for a 6-0 Avalanche lead at the intermission.
Out of the break, there was still more damage to be done. Paquette rounded out his hat trick, while Goodridge added his second to bring New Hampshire’s lead to 8-0.
The Islanders did get on the board later in the second half with goals from Edward Field (13:21) and Cameron Pacifico (19:22), but the Avalanche’s margin of victory was more than enough for a comfortable win.
