FOXBORO – A game does not have to have a winner to be a thrilling one, as ASM (Purple) and the Northstar 29ers proved on Saturday at the Foxboro Sports Center. A last second goal securing a 6-6 tie in College Open play on Day 3 of the 2025 Sr. Chowder Cup.
The action started all of 1:05 into the contest when ASM’s William Boyd scored the game’s first goal. As would become the pattern, when one team scored the other team answered right back. Just over two minutes later, Daniel Elashvill tied the game for the 29ers, but it took ASM all of 29-seconds to take their lead back on a Preston Handy goal that made it 2-1.
Both sides traded shots back-and-forth through the remainder of the first, resulting in a 3-3 draw at the break.
The theatrics continued in the second as the 29ers took a 5-3 lead early in the frame. A shorthanded goal by Mason Scott and a power play goal John Renzullo brought ASM back to even. Nick Langella scored with 1:59 remaining to give ASM a 6-5 advantage.
When all seemed over, Ben Firszt scored with 0:03 showing on the game clock to make it a 6-6 tie.
Firszt (2G, 1A) and Handy (1G, 2A) finished as the game’s leading scorers, each credit with three points.
