2019 Midget Fall Classic; Saturday games – 6:45p.

FOXBORO –The first day of the final New England Pro Am Hockey tournament of the season continued into Saturday evening at the Foxboro Sports Center. The following is a look at the reported games from the 6:45 p.m. set on the first day of the 2019 Midget Fall Classic.

Rink 1 – North Jersey Avalanche 1 vs. Wonderland Wizards U16 0:

One game, one goal, one win for the North Jersey Avalanche to start off their stay at New England Pro Am Hockey’s 2019 Midget Fall Classic. They defeated the Wonderland Wizards 1-0 on Saturday evening at the Foxboro Sports Center.

It was early in the contest when Matthew Hughes and Zachary Feig combined to feed Oliver Auciello at 6:11 of the first half to make it a 1-0 game. The was plenty of game still left to be played, but there were no more goals to be had.

North Jersey’s Kevin Rose and Wonderland’s John Grace came to task in their respective goal nets to thwart all remaining scoring chances that came their way. It was a defensive and goaltending battle that resulted in a 1-0 victory for the Avalanche.

Rink 2 – Delaware Prep Hockey 1 vs. Middlesex Icemen U18 7:

It was not until late in the day the U18 Middlesex Icemen made their debut at the 2019 Midget Fall Classic, but they made quite the entrance on Saturday evening at the Foxboro Sports Center. They defeated Delaware Prep 7-1.

At the turn, the game was playing as though it would be a tight fight to the finish. The Icemen leading 1-0 at the break on a shorthanded goal from Sean Barbera.

The second half, however, was a different contest as the Middlesex offense exploded to drop six in the game’s remaining 25 minutes. Delaware did eventually get onto the scoresheet, but their offense paled in comparison as the game ended 7-1.

Barbera was far and away the game’s leading scorer, credited with three goals and two assists. Nick Haschen was credited with the lone Delaware goal.

Rink 3 – East Coast Leafs U18 6 vs. Providence Hockey Club U18 2:

The East Coast Leafs rebounded from an opening loss at the 2019 Midget Fall Classic with a comfortable win in their nightcap on Saturday evening. They defeated Providence Hockey Club 6-2 at Foxboro Sport Center.

A 2-2 draw at the halftime intermission fell apart in the second for Providence as the Leafs popped off for four more to solidify their victory. Matt Gates, Connor O’Niel, Declan Lovett and Kevin O’Rielly came through with the scores while Ray Ivers shut the door in the East Coast net to make it a 6-2 final.
